Anthony Brown was born to immigrant parents in Huntington, New York, in 1961. Roy Hershel Brown, his father, was a doctor who was born in Cayo Mambi, Cuba, raised in Kingston, Jamaica, and then moved to the United States to enroll in Fordham University. In Zurich, Switzerland, Roy earned his medical degree. He met Karmen, his wife, through his involvement in education.

They got married and moved to New York, where she gave birth to all of their kids, including Anthony. Anthony attended public schools in Huntington, New York, which is located in Suffolk County on Long Island, and graduated from Huntington High School in 1979. Brown was voted as Huntington High School’s first African American president during his senior year.
Through an appointment, Brown began his studies at the United States Military Academy at West Point. After changing his mind, he enrolled in Harvard College and declared a government major. At Harvard, Brown participated in the Institute of Politics’ Student Advisory Committee.
Brown received a two-year scholarship and participated in the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps program at MIT in his second year. Brown earned his A.B. cum laude in 1984 and was recognized as a Distinguished Military Graduate.
Anthony received a bachelor’s from Harvard College and his law degree from Harvard Law School. He and his wife, Karmen, are the proud parents of three young adults.
